How a School Teacher Helped “Save the Planet” With $4.3 Million She Made from a Simple “Side Business”
EVG Research Team here. How does an elementary school teacher with a modest salary amass a $4.3 million+ estate?
Well, she used the simple strategy that we've written about in the last couple blog posts. She started her own business.
In Roberta's case, it was just a small “side business” that allowed her to keep the job she loved teaching children in her Toronto, Canada suburb.
Still, there's an exceptionally important “key” that made it so lucrative for her without having to devote her entire life to it.
So what's that important “key?”
The “Golden Key” That Allowed Roberta to Retire a Millionaire And Donate Millions To Her Favorite Charities
It all comes down to Roberta's passions.
Her first passion was to help children. She especially enjoyed working with Autistic children to overcome their speech difficulties.
Her second passion was the environment. She hated seeing her native Canadian wilderness plundered and wildlife habitat destroyed.
She wanted to help support conservation efforts as much as possible. But a teacher's salary didn't allow her to give more than $200-$300 a year.
It gnawed at her conscience that she couldn't “do more” for the environment.
She KNEW she needed more money … but she loved teaching and didn't want to give that up.
So instead of bitterly complaining about her lot in life … or throwing up her arms in hopeless despair…
Roberta did something about it. She changed her lot in life.
She did it by starting a little side business selling educational puzzles through mail-order.
You see, during her 55 years of teaching, Roberta had figured out many interesting and fun ways to challenge and expand the minds of her young students through brain-teasers and puzzles.
So she simply typed them out and compiled them into little booklets. She then sold them in the U.S. via mail-order.
Roberta used her extra-curricular profits to help support the conservationist efforts she loved. She also donated heavily to anti-pollution organizations. Even better…
Roberta Also Became A Secret Philanthropist
Her new-found wealth enabled Roberta to give substantial anonymous gifts of $20,000 or more to friends and colleagues in need. She did this regularly throughout the years. Yet no one ever guessed she was their benefactor, because Roberta lived a very plain lifestyle.
With her excess profits, Roberta also made some wise investments. This was something she could never adequately do on a teacher's salary alone.
Dividend paying stocks were her favorite investment, and she especially liked IBM. She bought her first shares in the 1950's and continued buying IBM stock until the early 1970's.
This strategy ensured regular cash flow from the dividends well into her retirement years … even after she'd stopped selling her puzzles.
How well did the strategy work for Roberta?
Well, not only was she able to support her favorite charities and help friends generously throughout her life, she also accumulated enough wealth to give away millions when she died in 2006.
Roberta never married and the executor of her estate refused to reveal her total net worth.
But we do know that just ONE of her beneficiaries received $4.3 million Canadian ($3.8 million USD at that time).
The Nature Conservatory of Canada confirmed they were the recipients, and said it's still the largest single donation they've ever received.
Their mission is to buy private land and convert it into nature reserves … and this environmental cause was one of Roberta's most fervent passions.
Roberta Capitalized On Her PASSIONS
In Two Different Ways
So let's recap what made Roberta so successful with her little side business.
First, she tapped into her “teaching children” passion which allowed her to easily create a marketable product.
Then she kept herself motivated by her passion for “saving the planet.” This passion fueled her drive to continue making extra income through her side business.
By tapping into these two passions, Roberta was never “burned out” by her job or her side business.
How could she be? She was doing what she loved.
And that's a key for anyone who wants to start a side business … or even a full time business.
Tap into your own passions.
Do what you love.
Of course they have to be marketable ideas. And there's lots of nuts-and-bolts details to get right.
But that's actually the easy part when you have a step-by-step business formula like the one Mike Dillard and Robert Hirsch lay out in their new Elevation Income course.
In fact, they've got a simple 3-part formula that can help you start your own profitable side business like Roberta's in 90 days or less.
